Now offering: therapy for musicians.
For free. For real.

Our goal: Musicians who have the tools to combat the stressors and demands of the 21st century music industry.

Upbeat GNV is a 501(3)c nonprofit organization based in Gainesville, FL, dedicated to the cause of bringing mental wellness to our vibrant music community.

Research is proving something we’ve all known since seemingly the dawn of time: musicians and music-industry professionals struggle at higher-than-average rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse and suicidal ideation.

We’re here to help.

The Affordable Therapy Resource Guide

We did the deep dive so you don’t have to.

From therapy to mood tracking tools, this is not your average resource guide. We didn’t just drop a bunch of phone numbers in here, we made sure our resource guide makes it clear: If you make a phone call, here’s what to expect. We break down your options, from limited free therapy options to our full list of known private practice therapists who offer you breaks on pricing based on income (known as “sliding scale”.)

Community Outreach

We believe a mentally well music community starts with conversation.

While a lot of us who play music are aware that we or even people around us may struggle, so few of us actually talk about that with others. We believe in getting together and showing each other that it’s okay to struggle, to not know what to do and that we are not alone. In fact, research shows the overwhelming majority of musicians struggle with their mental health at one time or another.

To help foster community and start the necessary conversations, we host a regular meetup for musicians to come together away from the lights and sound of the stage called Upbeat Unwind, hosted the first Monday of every month at Curia on the Drag. We also regularly send our volunteers to do active, face-to-face mental health education at music events all around Alachua County. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, sign up using the button below!

Mental Health Programs

In addition to Upbeat Unwind, we also have successfully raised the money to launch the Upbeat GNV Musicians Therapy Scholarship Fund in partnership with Gainesville Community Counseling Center. Soon, we will begin accepting applications for musicians in Gainesville to attend up to 8 therapy sessions free of charge, all thanks to the goodwill of the Gainesville community.

Stay tuned for more programs aimed at aiding the Gainesville musician’s climb to wellness.
